Course Safety, Etiquette & Pace of Play

At Isle of Wedmore Golf Club, we want every member and visitor to enjoy their round safely, courteously, and efficiently. This page outlines key guidance on safety, etiquette, and pace of play.

Pace of Play & Ready Golf

To help everyone enjoy the course, we encourage Ready Golf wherever it is safe to do so.

Average pace of play:

4-ball: approximately 4 hours

2-ball: approximately 3 hours 30 minutes

Key points to remember:

Play when ready: If it’s safe, you don’t always have to play in strict order of honour.

Provisional balls: If your ball may be lost or out of bounds, play a provisional ball promptly.

Be prepared: Have your club ready and be ready to play when it’s your turn.

Mark cards efficiently: Complete scoring after leaving the green rather than while on it.

Let faster groups through: Be aware of groups behind you and allow them to play through when appropriate.

Following these steps helps ensure a smooth and enjoyable round for all players.

Course Etiquette

Please help us maintain the quality of the course and respect fellow golfers by following these simple etiquette rules:

Repair pitch marks on greens after putting.

Replace divots on fairways and teeing areas.

Rake bunkers after use.

Respect other golfers by remaining quiet and standing clear when others play.

Observe buggy/trolley rules, respect ropes and stay on designated paths where indicated.

Safety

Paying your membership, green fees, and signing in indicates that you have read and understood this Safety notice.

Signing In:

Members and visitors must sign in and read this Safety Policy before commencing play.

First Aid:

If a member or visitor becomes unwell or has an accident, contact the Pro Shop: 01934 712452, the Club Office: 01934 712222, or a Greenkeeper. First aid assistance will be provided where available. In serious cases, call emergency services immediately.
The club has a defibrillator, only to be used by qualified personnel.

Weather & Course Conditions:

Snow & Ice: A path from the speed bump in the car park to the Pro-Shop and Clubhouse entrances will be gritted. The car parks, main drive, and course cannot be treated; members and visitors use the facility at their own risk—exercise extreme care.

Fog: The course will be closed if the 8th green cannot be seen from outside the Pro-Shop. If fog comes down during play, a klaxon will sound, and play must stop.

Lightning: In the event of an electrical storm, a klaxon will sound—leave the course immediately.

Wet Conditions: Take care on all areas, especially greens, tee banks, and the 12th hole.

Course Hazards & Equipment:

Always use pathways provided, especially on the 12th hole.

Greenkeeping staff have priority—keep clear of mowing, maintenance, and construction equipment.

Be aware that golf balls can be dangerous; if a ball is heading towards anyone, shout “FORE!”

Watch for cracks, shrinkage holes, and burrowing animal holes on all areas of the course. Report any hazards immediately.

Do not attempt to fix faults with course furniture or equipment yourself.

Avoid hydrant boxes and drain covers, which contain high-pressure water and electrical equipment.
